Star Wars: Racer Revenge

Star Wars racing game, sequel to Star Wars Episode I: Racer

SummaryAfter the success of Star Wars Episode I: Racer, LucasArts outsourced a sequel to developer Rainbow Studios to develop.
Released for the PlayStation 2 in February 2002, the game allowed players to take controls of 23 pilots on 13 different locations. The "Racer Revenge" tagline of the game comes from the racer Sebulba's attempt to exact revenge on Anakin Skywalker for his defeat to him in the pod race featured in the film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The game was also one of the four initial PlayStation 2 HD Classics line of games on the PlayStation 4. The game was originally only available as part of bundle of Star Wars games (which also featured Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Super Star Wars) as part of a special edition release of Star Wars Battlefront. Soon after though all of the games were made available for purchase separately shortly after the PlayStation 2 HD Classics was made offical and additional PlayStation 2 games were also released.GameplaySimilar to its predecessor (Star Wars: Episode I - Racer) the gameplay is largely the same as the previous game in the series. The most drastic change would be the additional mechanic of a knock-out system wherein all racers are given a health bar for their pod which if emptied forces the racer to retire from the racer. Pods take damage via colliding with other racers or scenery and by overusing the boost feature of the podracer. Health can be recovered by entering into a health recovery state though this comes at a speed penality as the podracer slows down whilst in this mode.Game Modes:Single PlayThis mode presents the player with three options:Single Event - This mode allows players to race on any unlocked track with any unlocked racer anywhere from 1 to 25 laps.Practice - Similar to single event with the exception that players can set the number of opponents from 1 to 8.Time Trial - Similar also to single event except that players are now the only racer and are attempting to set the best lap time.Vs RaceThe competitive split-screen mode wherein players race against human opponents using any of the unlocked racers and track locations.TournamentThe single player campaign aspect of the game where players select their character of choice and race across the 13 tracks within the game. Each race has an associated prize amount award for coming in either first, second or third place and a bonus multiplier is applied based on the number of other racers the player manages to retire during the race. The awarded credits can then be used to upgrade the player's race craft after each race with the exception of the 3 secret characters whose stats cannot be upgraded. Vehicles can be upgraded in the following 5 statistics on a point scale of 1-20:AccelerationTop SpeedHandlingDefenceRepairCoolingWorth noting also is that once a player decides to progress onto the next race location they are unable to go back and race on the previous locale. Instead they are forced to always progress forward through the 13 race locations. The tournament mode's structure is as follows:Galactic Trials:Mos Espa OpenSoroSuub FacilityOrotoru G'amWatchtower RunPodracing Open:The BrightlandsThe BadlandsThe Ballast ComplexRuins of Carnuss GorgullHutt Championships:Serres SarranoGrand ReefsCitadelNightlandsBoonta Eve Classic (Mos Espa Grand Arena)Characters:The game contains 23 characters to select from which with the exception of the 5 secret characters are unlocked via progressing through the tournament mode with one character.
