Considered a spin-off of Taito's classic Space Invaders series of ship-based shoot-'em-ups, Space Raiders features a run-and-gun twist in that the action takes place on ground-level, with the player controlling one of three characters (teenager Justin, fashion photographer Ashley, or police officer Naji) during an alien invasion as they run back-and-forth while shooting waves of aliens with their gun and dodging their attacks. The Japanese PS2 version later received a budget re-release on May 20, 2004 as part of D3 Publisher's Simple series, with the full title Simple 2000 Series Vol. 52: The Chikyuu Shinryakugun - Space Raiders.GameplayThe gameplay in Space Raiders functions similarly to the original Space Invaders arcade game at the most basic level. As one of three playable characters, the player can move side to side in narrow pathways while shooting at approaching hordes of enemies. Unlike the arcade game, however, the player is afforded a small amount of vertical movement, as well. At certain points, the player can acquire a weapons boost that enables the player to deal more damage. the game features six levels.
