The Residents: Bad Day on the Midway

Designed, written, and performed by the anonymous and infamous American multimedia art rock group The Residents, and a successor to The Residents: Freak Show, Bad Day on the Midway tasks players with exploring a demented carnival and interacting with its denizens. Much of the game is played as 3D CGI full-motion video cutscenes, with some story aspects drawn in various styles by guest artists.Players start as the naive 10-year-old boy Timmy, and can switch their perspective over to other characters when they see them. Each character has their own watchable backstories, reactions to unfolding events (shown as strands of text on the screen) and their own objectives. The game includes several endings, not including the ways characters can prematurely die.Along with an official soundtrack in 2006, the game later received a novelization in 2012.
