The Chessmaster 2000

One of the most well-known comptuer chess games of the 1980's, The Chessmaster 2000 features an advanced chess engine by David Kittinger along with numerous training tools and mouse controls.

OverviewThe Chessmaster 2000 is a digital chess game developed and published by The Software Toolworks (with Electronic Arts co-publishing it in Europe) for the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit, Apple II, IBM PCs and Macintosh computers throughout 1986.
One of the most well-known computer chess games of the 1980's, and a successor to the Mychess series, The Chessmaster 2000 combined its own proprietary chess engine from David Kittinger with a variety of features to help teach the game, including several difficulty levels (based on how quickly the AI is forced to think), and multiple hint and analysis systems. It is the earliest known chess game to make use of mouse controls, features graphics in both 2D and 3D perspectives (which can rotated to a side view), and allows the option to manipulate the board directly (for both handicapping and setting up board configurations for puzzles and famous positions). Boxed copies of the game also included a booklet from the United States Chess Federation. The game was later ported to the Amstrad CPC, MSX, and ZX Spectrum in Europe in the late 1980's, all published by Mindscape. It also received numerous sequels and console conversions bearing the Chessmaster name, most of which are branded with the game's mascot (the wizard-like "Chessmaster", portrayed by actor Will Hare).
