Star Wars Chess
In a galaxy far, far away... the Galactic Civil War makes its way to the ultimate arena: the CHESSBOARD!
Overview The Software Toolworks' Star Wars Chess, also known simply as Star Wars Chess, is a digital chess game developed and published by The Software Toolworks for DOS & Windows PCs in 1993, with a Sega CD conversion released in 1994 (both by The Software Toolworks in North America and Mindscape in Europe).
Based on the Star Wars sci-fi film franchise and making use of the studio's The Chessmaster 3000 chess engine, Star Wars Chess is a traditional chess game with pieces represented by characters from the original film trilogy, with White representing the "Light Side" of the Rebel Alliance and Black representing the "Dark Side" of the Galactic Empire. It also features sound effects and music from the films.Similar to Battle Chess, players can enable hand-drawn animation for all pieces in both their movement and attacks, with all attacks playing a comical cartoon animation unique for each combination of pieces. The Sega CD version makes use of full-motion video for attacks, while the PC version renders all attacks in-game.Although the original film introduced a similar board game, known as "dejarik" or "holochess", Star Wars Chess does not replicate it other than the concept of game pieces attacking each-other with animation.Chess PiecesLight Side8 R2D2 Pawns2 C-3PO Bishops2 Yoda Rooks2 Chewbacca Knights1 Princess Leia Queen1 Luke Skywalker KingDark Side8 Imperial Stormtrooper Pawns2 Tusken Raider Bishops2 AT-ST Rooks2 Boba Fett Knights1 Darth Vader Queen1 Emperor Palpatine King
