It was later released for the Sega Master System in South America by Tec Toy in December 1997.The fifth and final 8-bit platformer to feature Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Blast features both the titular hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna as playable characters and pre-rendered 3D graphics (similar to Sonic 3D Blast).The GG version was included as a hidden mini-game in the 2003 game Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, in the 2004 compilation Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and in the 2005 compilation Sonic Gems Collection (as a limited "demo"). It digitally re-released for the Nintendo 3DS (via Virtual Console) on April 2012 (in Japan), June 2012 (in Europe), and June 2013 (in North America).
