Based on the CGI live-action film Small Soldiers, Squad Commando has players commanding one of two factions of sentient action figures (the noble Gorgonites or the mighty Commando Elite) as they take part in "small-scale" tactical warfare throughout a small town. Much of the game's mouse-based interface and gameplay style is based on popular real-time strategy games at the time, with less of a focus on base-building and more on completing objectives with a small squad. Some of its key features is an inventory system, allowing each squadmate to carry a single item (whether it's a special attack like a thrown firecracker, or a passive buff like binoculars for extra vision), and maps with activatable traps and objects. The only voice actor who reprises their role from the movie is Tommy Lee Jones (Person) as Major Chip Hazard (Character).
