The game follows the protagonist Del Cottonwood, a halfling who traveled by caravan into Shadowgate and was imprisoned by bandits. After breaking free, he embarks on a quest through the four towers. Utilizing books and clues from various towns folk as well as ghosts of the deceased, he must figure out the story of Shadowgate.
