In 1993, Presage Software acquired the rights to the classic Lode Runner game and tasked themselves with creating a new updated Lode Runner, for various new machines out on the market.
Lode Runner: The Legend Returns, published by Sierra Online in 1994, is the fruits of their effort. The game did well, winning awards and leading to a 1995 sequel, Lode Runner Online.Natsume rereleased the game on the PlayStation platform in 1998.
