High Impact Football

Advertised as "the first live action football game", High Impact Football is a fast-paced, arcade-style, belt-scrolling football game and a precursor to the NFL Blitz series.

OverviewHigh Impact Football is a belt-scrolling football game developed and released by Williams for arcades in 1990.
Advertised as "the first live action football game" (not counting the FMV game NFL Football), High Impact Football is a fast-paced, arcade-style football game that used digitized graphics both for the players and for interstitial moments.Similar in concept to the 1987 game Tecmo Bowl, the game features multiplayer for up to four players, simplistic controls (making use of only one "Action" button), and a playbook system (with both teams choosing from a selection of plays before each snap). The game features over 40 offensive plays and defensive formations to choose from, with teams only given access to 9 of them at a time (depending on the context). It was later followed up a year later with Super High Impact, and received a 3D follow-up with the NFL Blitz series. Some of the game's concepts, such as its fast-paced nature and digitized graphics, also made its way to the basketball-based NBA Jam series.TeamsAtlantaChicagoDenverDetroitKansas CityLAMiamiNew YorkPittsburghSan FranTexasWashingtonTeam AfricaTeam CanadaTeam Europa
