Chuzzle Deluxe

A puzzle game from PopCap, where you slide rows and columns of cute multi-colored "chuzzles" to match them off the board.

OverviewChuzzle, known in paid releases as Chuzzle Deluxe, is a tile-matching puzzle game developed by Raptisoft and published digitally by PopCap Games for the PC on May 16, 2005, with a free version for web browsers on July 6, 2005.
In Chuzzle, players are given a 6×6 grid of multi-colored fuzzballs (known as "chuzzles") and must slide entire rows and columns (which wrap around each-otherm similar to Yoshi's Cookie) using the mouse to form groups of three or more of the same color. Similar to Bejeweled, gravity causes additional chuzzles to fall from the top of the playfield, potentially causing cascading matches. The game later received a CD release on August 24, 2005, and a retail release (by MumboJumbo) on May 30, 2007. It also received a digital Steam release on August 30, 2006, which received Mac support on May 12, 2010.The game also received releases for mobile devices, including the iPhone on December 8, 2009 (with touchscreen controls). This version later received two successors from Raptisoft themselves, with Chuzzle 2 and Chuzzle Snap.GameplayIn certain situations, 2×2 pieces (known as "fat" chuzzles) can enter the board, which makes it so that the rows and columns they are in can only be shiftedGame ModesClassic ChuzzleThe game's standard mode (and the one started by default when booting up the game for the first time), Classic Chuzzle is a level-based mode where players score as many points as they can before they can no longer make a valid move. Each level is cleared once the "flask" at the left is filled up by matching chuzzles, with larger matches filling up a larger portion. Each level starts with a new board, and progressively get more difficult by having random chuzzles become "locked" after a certain amount of matches are made (which makes the row and column unmovable). This mode also makes use of limited-use "scrambles", which serve as the game's "lives" and resets the board once a valid move cannot be made. Additional scrambles are rewarded after reaching a certain amount of score. There are two difficulties for this mode: "Casual" and "Expert". Expert difficulty grants bonus points, but makes locks appear more frequently from the start.Speed ChuzzleA variation of Classic mode where instead of chuzzles being locked after making matches, a unique repeatable timer gauge fills up over time that causes a random chuzzle to become "locked" each time it is full. Making matches pushes the timer back.Like Classic, the game includes both Casual and Expert difficulties, with the latter speeding up the timer (while giving bonus points).Zen ChuzzleA casual endless version with no losing condition (as "locked" pieces are unused and the game automatically scrambles when no valid moves can be made).Instead of leveling up, filling up the flask instead produces a cosmetic chuzzle outside of the play area, where producing five of them in a single game causes a new cosmetic "trinket" to appear in all subsequent plays of the mode. It can take several hours to unlock all trinkets, which can be upgraded to golden trinkets.Mind BenderA casual puzzle variation where players are given pre-arranged boards and must shift rows and columns until each board matches their correct pattern. There are 20 levels in total, each with 5 boards to solve (for a total of 100).Unlike other modes, this one does not include any tile-clearing, and players can freely shift a row or column without making a match. While there are no "locked" chuzzles, some boards do make use of "fat" chuzzles.BeChuzzedA secret unlockable game mode and a nod to PopCap's game Bejeweled, BeChuzzed replaces the chuzzles with gems of different shapes and colors (with graphics from on the earliest versions of its "Diamond Mine" predecessor and sounds from the later Bejeweled releases). Scrambles, as well as "locked" and "fat" pieces, are unused.
