Bubble and Squeak

A puzzle-platformer starring a young boy and his alien companion, who must help each-other reach the goal while freeing fellow aliens from captivity.

Overview Bubble and Squeak is a 2D puzzle-platformer developed by Fox Williams and published by Sunsoft and Audiogenic for the Genesis, Amiga, and Amiga CD32 in 1994, with all versions released in Europe and only the Genesis version receiving a North American release.
Named after the English cuisine of the same name, Bubble and Squeak is a platformer where players control the young boy "Bubble" as he guides his blue alien companion "Squeak" around the planet Grool to rescue Squeak's fellow Grooleans from captivity from the evil Kat of Nine Tails.Gameplay The game plays like a standard platformer, with the player-controlled Bubble shooting stars at enemies (using the A button in the Genesis version) and jumping (using the B button in the Genesis version). The objective is to reach the Goal Post at the end of the level, while using collected Gems to free captive Grooleans from Bozo Domes (50 per Dome) for bonus points (and the chance to reach bonus levels).Once Bubble finds his buddy Squeak, the AI-controlled Squeak can either stay in place or try to follow Bubble around, which can be changed at-will (using the C button in the Genesis version). While stopped, Squeak can help Bubble reach great heights when he's stopped (by standing near him and pressing the D-Pad upward in the Genesis version), and Bubble can kick Squeak (using the A button in the Genesis version) into a fast forward roll (even rolling around slopes, curves, and loops). By collecting coins, Bubble can buy magic gumballs at special machines to feed Squeak, allowing Bubble to ride on his back (similar to Yoshi from Super Mario World) with faster movement, higher jumps, and the ability to squash enemies by jumping on them. Depending on the color of gumball, Squeak can also blow bubbles as a weapon, gain the ability to fly, or become super-fast.While there's no in-game timer, the water level continuously rises, causing the player to lose a life and level to reset if either Bubble or Squeak is submerged. Additionally, players have a limited amount of health points, which can be replenished by collecting Food. Hearts can be found as extra lives.LevelsThe game has 30 main platforming levels, split up into five different areas:Stardust Caverns (levels 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 14, and 15)Neverglades (levels 3, 7, 11, 12, and 13)Diamond Foundry (levels 8, 9, 10, 16, 17,18, 23, and 24)Sandcastle Desert (levels 19, 20, 21, 25, and 26)Neon City (levels 22, 27, 28, 29, and 30)The game includes 10 bonus levels (when four Grooleans are freed in one level) to earn additional health points. In addition, the game includes five bonus underwater side-scrolling shoot-'em-up levels (when a submarine is found in certain levels) where the duo pilots a submarine and battle various creatures (taking on the Kat of Nine Tails himself at the end).
