Boggle

The classic three-minute word-finding puzzle game makes its way to Windows PCs, with special bonus 3D variations and networked multiplayer.

OverviewBoggle CD-ROM is a word-finding puzzle game developed by both PCA, Inc.
and Third-i Productions and published by Hasbro Interactive for Windows PCs on October 1997.A video game adaptation of real-life word game Boggle, and the first official entry after Hasbro acquired the word game's original distributor Parker Brothers, Boggle CD-ROM features the classic game along with four unique variations (all of which make use of a 3D space in different ways). Some of these modes can be played in multiplayer, whether it's against a CPU opponent, using turn-based hotseat multiplayer, or playing against others through networked or online play.It also includes detailed dictionary entries for each included word in the game's dictionary.Game ModesThere are five game modes that can be played, either on Original or Master difficulty modes:Classic Boggle is the traditional game of Boggle, giving players three minutes to find words of three-or-more letters from a 4×4 grid of letter cubes, where each letter cube after the first has to be adjacent to the one before it (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and is not the same as any previously-used cube. Master mode changes it to a 5×5 grid while requiring words of four-or-more letters.BreakAway Boggle is a 3D variation where players are given a 4×4×4 cube of letter cubes (where each letter cube has the same letter on all sides), which can be rotated around in free space. While it plays similar to traditional Boggle, letter cubes are removed after they form a word. Master mode requires words of four-or-more letters.Battle Boggle is a one-on-one versus variation where each player is given 10 letter cubes and must take turns placing them on an empty 4×4 grid while finding words on the grid similar to traditional Boggle. Rather than a single timer, the game makes use of alternating five-minute game clocks (or "chess timers") for each player. Master mode changes it to 12 cubes each on a 5×5 grid (with the middle-most tile pre-filled) while requiring words of four-or-more letters.Space Boggle is a single-player 3D arcade variation where each letter cube (which has the same letter on all sides) is flying towards the screen in random positions. Cubes do not need to be adjacent to one another to find words. It makes use of a one-minute timer that resets if the player manages to find a certain number of words (completing the "level"). Master mode requires words of four-or-more letters. In Your Face Boggle is a single-player 3D variation where the 4×4 grid of letter cubes, each of which get removed from the board after using them in a word, gets a new layer of cubes underneath every 30 seconds. The game ends after one cube gets seven additional layers underneath. Master mode changes it to a 5×5 grid while requiring words of four-or-more letters.By default, the game automatically orients the letter cubes up-right to make it easier, which can be disabled for each game in the settings. Other settings including changing the timer length of Classic, BreakAway, and Battle modes (from 1-5 minutes0, and to enable the Battle mode's turn-based "chess timers" in Classic or BreakAway modes.
