In BattleSport, players partake in one-on-one duels inside futuristic hovertanks, with the goal being to take possession of the ball and launch it at the goal, all while using a variety of weapons and power-ups to take the opponent down. There are several Tanks and opponents to choose from, and there are over 50 arenas in total, each with a unique variety of goal types and obstacles.Along with standard Instant Action and Exhibition modes, the latter of which can be played in split-screen multiplayer, the game features a Tournament career mode where players progress through the ranks while unlocking new tanks and purchasing power-ups.It later received ports to the Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and DOS PCs in 1997, all published by Acclaim.
