Microsoft Golf 1998 Edition

The fourth installment of the Microsoft Golf series, featuring a brand new game engine, a unique mouse-based swing system, and online matchmaking.

OverviewMicrosoft Golf 1998 Edition is a golf simulation game developed by Friendly Software Corporation and published by Microsoft for Windows PCs on April 1998.
The fourth installment of the Microsoft Golf series, 1998 Edition switches from being a Windows version of the Links series (as Microsoft was no longer partnered with Access at the time) to using a new game engine from the studio behind Greg Norman Ultimate Challenge Golf. Like previous entries, it uses digitized sprites for both golfers and environments.Along with higher-resolution graphics, the game features multiple swing types (including the traditional "three-click" swing, a hold-and-release "two-click" swing, an automated "sim" swing, and a unique mouse motion "natural" swing), online multiplayer support (with matchmaking via the Internet Gaming Zone), 10 total game types, 10 golfer actors to choose from, and 63 total holes (including the Bay Harbor Golf Club near Lake Michigan, its corresponding Preserve course, and both the Links and Teeth of the Dog courses at the Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic). The game was later known for being included in the Microsoft Plus! 98 suite as Microsoft Golf 1998 Lite (with only the Preserve 9 course included), and later received an enhanced update as Microsoft Golf 1999 Edition.
