Vigil Games
Vigil Games was a company known for the well-received Darksiders and its impressive sequel. The studio was closed in 2013 after it failed to draw a buyer during THQ's bankruptcy auction.
Overview
Vigil Games was based in Austin, Texas, it was founded by former NCsoft director David Adams and Marvel Comic artist Joe Madureira. They were owned by THQ, who tried to sell them through bankruptcy proceedings. Tragically, there were no bids at the THQ auction for Vigil, and the studio subsequently closed its doors on January 23, 2013.
Games
Vigil Games was the developer of the early-2010 game Darksiders--a post-apocalyptic, action-adventure game heavily influenced by the art of Vigil's Joe Madureira. Within the game the player takes control of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Many reviews compared it favourably to the The Legend of Zelda and God of War franchises.
Production on Darksiders II began a few months after the successful release of the first Darksiders. Set concurrently with the first game, Darksiders II explores what War's fellow Horseman, Death, was up to while War was having his adventure. It was released on August 14, 2012.
Vigil Games was also working on this cancelled MMORPG. One of the founding members, David Adams, is one of the world's leading authorities of the Warhammer 40K universe, and has been very passionate about it for most of his life, making it especially unfortunate that funding was eventually pulled and Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online was cancelled.
