Leaf

Leaf is an eroge subsidiary of Aquaplus that is most famous for coining the term "visual novel" and for developing many popular franchises in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Overview

Leaf () is a PC developer that was established in October 1994 as a subsidiary of U-Office, current day Aquaplus. The purpose of the subsidiary was to create eroge for the Japanese PC market with Leaf's debut title being DR2 Night Janki in 1995. While the developer had little recognition at first, Leaf eventually became an icon within the otaku fandom in Japan where they were famous for creating games like To Heart, Comic Party, White Album, and Utawarerumono. The company's Leaf Visual Novel Series also coined the term "visual novel," which would eventually become a popular genre title in the West for Japanese novel games.

Today, the company rarely creates adult titles so the Leaf brand is seldom used anymore. All of the developer's mainstream releases are instead published under their parent company's name, Aquaplus.
