Originally announced as "Project Scarlett," Microsoft's Xbox division gave the official name of its next console in trailer form during The Game Awards on December 12, 2019. The console, known as the Xbox Series X, will launch in the holiday season of 2020.

Previous rumors about two variants of the console ("Anaconda" and "Lockhart") line up with the use of the "Series" style of naming, inferring that there may be additional entries in the product line in the future, similar to the Xbox One's variants, the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. As such, this page might be better named as merely "Xbox" if and when additional variants are confirmed for release.

Ninja Theory's Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was announced alongside the console. Halo Infinite was previously confirmed as a game for both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X platforms.
